Your privacy is important to us. This Privacy Policy explains how Fit Territory ("we", "us", or "our") collects, uses, discloses, and safeguards your information when you use our mobile application and related services. Please read this policy carefully.

1. Information We Collect

1.1 Information You Provide

When you create an account or use Fit Territory, you may provide us with:

  • Account Information: Username, email address, and optional profile photo.
  • Profile Data: Display name, optional age group, and fitness preferences.
  • Communications: Any messages you send to our support team.

1.2 Information Collected Automatically

When you use the app, we automatically collect:

  • Location Data: GPS coordinates, movement paths, and territory activity to power the core gameplay mechanics. This data is continuously collected while the app is active in the background.
  • Step & Motion Data: Pedometer readings, step counts, and movement distances via your device's accelerometer and health sensors.
  • Device Information: Device model, operating system version, unique device identifiers, IP address, and mobile network information.
  • Usage Data: App session duration, feature interactions, territories claimed, leaderboard positions, and in-app activity logs.
  • Crash Reports: Diagnostic data sent automatically when the app encounters an error.

1.3 Health & Fitness Data

Fit Territory integrates with your device's health platform (Google Fit on Android) to access step count and activity data. We only access the minimum data necessary to provide the app's core functionality. You may revoke this permission at any time through your device settings.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect for the following purposes:

  • Core Game Functionality: Processing location data to determine territory ownership, step tracking, and leaderboard calculations.
  • Account Management: Creating and maintaining your user account, authenticating you, and managing preferences.
  • Competitive Features: Displaying your username and stats on public leaderboards and territory maps visible to other users.
  • Service Improvement: Analyzing usage patterns, identifying bugs, and improving app performance and features.
  • Communications: Sending service announcements, security alerts, support responses, and — if you opt in — promotional updates about new features and events.
  • Safety & Security: Detecting and preventing fraudulent activity, cheating, or abuse of the platform.
  • Legal Compliance: Meeting our obligations under applicable laws and regulations.

3. How We Share Your Information

3.1 Publicly Visible Information

The following information is visible to other users of Fit Territory by default:

  • Your username and display name
  • Territories you have claimed (shown on the public map)
  • Your position on the leaderboard
  • Your approximate activity area (not your precise home address)

You can choose a pseudonymous username to limit your real-world identity exposure.

3.2 Third-Party Service Providers

We share data with trusted third-party service providers who assist us in operating Fit Territory:

  • Cloud Hosting: Firebase / Google Cloud Platform for backend infrastructure, authentication, and data storage.
  • Analytics: Firebase Analytics to understand aggregate app usage (no personally identifiable information is shared).
  • Crash Reporting: Firebase Crashlytics for error tracking and app stability.
  • Map Services: Mapbox or Google Maps SDK for rendering the in-app territory map.

All third-party providers are contractually required to protect your data and may not use it for independent purposes.

3.3 Legal Disclosures

We may disclose your information if required to do so by law, or in response to valid legal requests, such as court orders, subpoenas, or government inquiries.

3.4 Business Transfers

In the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of all or part of our assets, your data may be transferred to the acquiring entity. We will notify you before your personal data is transferred and becomes subject to a different privacy policy.

4. Location Data — Special Notice

Fit Territory's core gameplay requires continuous background location access. Without this, the app cannot function as intended.

  • Location data is used solely for game mechanics (territory claims, leaderboard distance).
  • We do not sell your location data to advertisers or data brokers.
  • Location data is associated with your account but is not used to build advertising profiles.
  • Historical movement trails are stored to calculate total distance and territory history. You may request deletion of this data at any time.
  • You can disable background location in your phone's settings, but this will prevent territory claiming from working.

5. Data Retention

We retain your personal data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide you services. Specifically:

  • Active Accounts: Data is retained for the lifetime of your account.
  • Deleted Accounts: Upon account deletion, we delete or anonymize your personal data within 30 days, except where retention is required by law.
  • Location History: Raw GPS trails are retained for 90 days, after which they are aggregated and anonymized for statistical purposes only.
  • Leaderboard Data: Anonymized leaderboard records (username + stats) may be retained for historical records even after account deletion, unless you request removal.

6. Your Rights and Choices

Depending on your location, you may have the following rights regarding your personal data:

  • Access: Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
  • Correction: Request that we correct inaccurate or incomplete data.
  • Deletion: Request that we delete your personal data ("right to be forgotten").
  • Portability: Request a machine-readable export of your data.
  • Objection: Object to certain processing activities (e.g., marketing communications).
  • Restriction: Request that we limit how we use your data in certain circumstances.

7. Children's Privacy

Fit Territory is not intended for users under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with their personal information, please contact us immediately and we will delete such information promptly.

Users between the ages of 13 and 17 should have parental consent before using the app.

8. Data Security

We take the security of your data seriously and implement industry-standard measures including:

  • TLS/SSL encryption for all data in transit
  • AES-256 encryption for sensitive data at rest
  • Strict access controls — only authorized personnel can access user data
  • Regular security audits and vulnerability assessments
  • Two-factor authentication for internal admin systems

However, no method of transmission over the internet or method of electronic storage is 100% secure. While we strive to use commercially acceptable means to protect your data, we cannot guarantee absolute security.

9. International Data Transfers

Fit Territory is operated from India. If you are accessing the app from outside India, please be aware that your data may be transferred to, stored, and processed in India or other countries where our service providers are located. By using the app, you consent to such transfers.

Where required by law (e.g., GDPR for EU users), we ensure appropriate safeguards are in place for international transfers.

10. Third-Party Links and Integrations

The app may contain links to third-party websites or integrate with third-party services (e.g., Google Fit, social media platforms). We are not responsible for the privacy practices of these third parties. We encourage you to review the privacy policies of any third-party services you use in connection with Fit Territory.

11. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make significant changes, we will:

  • Post the updated policy with a new "Last Updated" date
  • Notify you via email (if you have provided one) or in-app notification
  • Require re-acceptance of the policy for material changes

Your continued use of Fit Territory after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
